It can be hard to find the time for a workout when you’re one of the busy moms.
Trust me, I know.
Sometimes I barely have the time to take a shower.
But I decided, that I want to get in shape no matter what.
So I took baby steps toward becoming a healthy and fit mom.
Here is how I did it.
FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU
I tried so many things before finding the workouts I like. And that’s totally find. You don’t know if you enjoy something until you try it.
I tried zumba classes, yoga, swimming lessons, etc.
While I was still in the process of finding what works for me the best, my friend asked if I’d like to go for a run with her.
That’s when I realised how much I loved running.
Bonus: I got myself a workout buddy which makes the workout more fun.
TEAM UP WITH OTHERS
Finding a workout buddy changed everything for me.
I became much more motivated.
Sometimes when I felt lazy or was just overwhelemed with everything that was going on at home I said myself that I’m not going to workout today.
Well, when my friend called me that she’ll meet me in 15 minutes to go for a jog to the park I said something like: “Sorry, I can’t. My baby is so fussy today.”
She replied: “Well, it’s your choice. Just remember, that it’s totally okay to leave your baby with your partner while you take 30 minutes for yourself to clear your head, feel better about yourself and mostly to stay healthy.”
After these words she never had to convince me again. Because I realised that being healthy is the most important thing and my baby would ‘survive’ without me for half an hour. Wanting to be fit and healthy doesn’t make you a bad mom.
WALK, WALK, WALK!
This is so easy to do, yet it’s one of the most effective ways to get in shape.
I walk almost everywhere.
Of course, if I have to get to the other end of the city I take the subway. The trick is to get off at one station before the station you actually have to go to.
Also a few times a week(3-4) I simply put my baby in the stroller and we go for a walk to the park. Sometimes it can get boring visiting the same park over and over again, so I always try to find some new parks near me.
EXERCISE WHILE DOING CHORES
Squat while picking up things from the floor.
Just think about how many times a day you have to pick things up from the floor
Toddlers always keep throwing things on the floor.
And don’t let me start on picking up the toys.
Maybe you don’t even think about it and do it automatically. Today, I want you to be aware of what you are doing and try to count how many times you squatted. Leave your answer in the comments below!
Vacuuming
Vacuuming is one of the best workouts ever! Think of it as a cardio exercise.
While you vacuum you move your whole body. Almost every muscle in it.
When I learnt this, I started to vacuum 4x a week.
Bonus: My house looks spotless (almost) all the time!
