40 lbs!
That’s how much weight I gained during my pregnancy.
Everyone around me was telling me how it was not a problem. How I’m going to lose all that pregnancy weight a few weeks after giving birth without any effort.
Let me tell you what I think about what they told me now:
HOGWASH, NONSENSE, RUBBISH!
You simply can’t lose weight while doing nothing for it.
It took me some time to wrap my mind around it.
However I was sure about two things:
1. I wanted my pre-baby body back ASAP
2. I didn’t have much free time left for working out while having a newborn at home
Yet, I found a way to do it. And guess what?
With a little bit of will and as little as 30 minutes a day you are able to do it too!
In this post I’ll tell you exactly what I did step-to-step to lose my baby weight.
1. SET REALISTIC GOALS
Everyone sheds weight at their own pace.
If you set unrealistic goals I can assure you that you will give up. This will only make you feel disappointed in yourself.
It’s very important to set goals which you are able to accomplish while not putting too much pressure on yourself. Also, time plays a big role since as a newborn’s mom you probably don’t have that much time on your hands.
My goals were:
- Lose 40 lbs in one year
- Workout 3 times a week for 30 minutes
- Add more vegetables to my diet
- Take the right suplements
- Drink at least 68 oz(2 litres) of water every day
2. WORKOUT
I’m not talking any crazy hard HIIT workouts. I started slowly.
Keep in mind that your body needs to recover after giving birth and it may take some time.
The first 2 months my 30 minutes workouts consisted literally just of walking. But whatever was going on, however lazy I was, I still took that walk 3 times a week.
Usually I would put my baby girl in a stroller and just walk around the park with her. At first I started off at a really slow pace, but with time I was walking faster and faster.
Later on I replaced the walks with some cardio workouts in the gym. However, by that time I got so used to those walks that I didn’t stop.
3. DRINK UP
I can’t stress enough how drinking water is important. Even if you are not thirsty, you should drink.
I never was a big fan of water and now I can’t imagine drinking less than 68 oz daily. I felt okay when I didn’t drink enough of it. At least I thought it was okay.
Boy, was I wrong!
Headaches, dizziness and tiredness were my daily companions. I thought it was normal. But I guess I never knew any different.
From day 1 when I started to drink 68 oz of water I felt like a different person. After a week or so these were my results:
- less tired = more energy
- no headaches = more productive/happier
- glowing(fresh) skin
- less hungry = weight loss
4. DIET
No. I’m not talking about a strict restrictive diet. I’m talking about a healthy balanced diet.
I simply continued to eat the way I used to but I added a serving of fruit/veggies to each meal.
Since then I’m eating A LOT of veggies.
First week – I didn’t really like it.
Second week – It was okay, I guess.
Third week – When I didn’t have vegetables with my meals I felt like I was missing something. And I was really craving some nice fresh salad!
This is just about getting used to eating more healthy and making it a routine. You’ll come around and love your fruits and veggies!
For example if I have a toast & scrambled eggs for breakfast I simply cut up some tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers and eat them with my eggs. If you don’t really fancy veggies you can season them. For example I eat my tomatoes and cucumbers only when I add some salt.
5. SUPLEMENTS
Giving birth is hard.
It changes your body and your body needs to recover.
You need vitamins and a lot of energy.
There are tons of supplements on the market these days.
Which one is good? Which will work for you?
Well, for me it’s definitely Turmeric with BioPerine.

6. DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
From my experience comparing myself to other people makes me feel depressed.
When I focus on myself my self-esteem is higher and I feel much more confident.
It’s important to realise that everybody’s body is different. It’s fine that ‘Karen‘ already lost all her baby weight 3 months ago and you are still on only -10 lbs.
You and your baby are the most important so direct all your attention to yourselves.

In the beginning it may seem hard and you may feel lazy or not motivated enough. But never give up!
Remember your goals.
It’s worth it.
I fell off track a few times. I had a week when I didn’t go for a walk nor worked out. It’s fine.
We are humans. We make mistakes. The most important thing is to realise this and CONTINUE.
I lost the 40 lbs in less than a year. 7 months! Simply because I didn’t give up.
The first few days are hard but then you’ll get used to it.
It becomes a routine.
You suddenly notice you love doing it.
Love yourself & your body.
All mamas are beautiful.
I love it… getting on with it right now
